About Me

I was born in Nicaragua, Central America.  I come from a very loving and somewhat large family (6 kids).  We came to the U.S. in 1978, thinking that the civil war would last a couple of months, and we would go back.  My family was against the Somoza dictatorship, so my dad decided to temporarily move the family.  Then, the Sandinistas won the civil war, and they established an even worse dictatorship.  So we stayed here.  We moved to Breaux Bridge, LA. with an incredibly family called the Dauterives.  Doc and Lou Dauterive were two of the nicest people ever brought to this world.  As soon as we figured out that we were not leaving anytime soon, we got our own place in Lafayette, LA.  I attended Teurlings Catholic High School and then the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana – Lafayette).  From there, I went to work at Amoco in New Orleans, and then Amoco in Houston, TX.  After 8 years at Amoco, I left for the bright lights (and more pay) of the software world.  I did a lot of interesting stuff at a company called Action Technologies, then went on to Selectica, where I helped bring the company Public.  From Selectica I started my own consulting company (right before 9/11), reved it up to $3.8 million in 8 months and sold it.   I then had a short stint with Movaris, then Business Objects (great company), Active Decisions (great work), and now Hyperion (best company so far).  I am now at Oracle, really enjoying the experience.

I have two awesome kids.  I know all parents say that, but mine truly are.  They are the highlight of my life, and I love spending time with them.  They truly complete me.  I was married for 10 years, and thought that I would be married forever.  However, my ex-wife had other plans.

God and religion play a  huge part in my life.  I am a practicing Catholic, and yes, I do believe.  I believe in God, Family, Country – in that order.

I am fairly conservative, but not nuts.  I would say I am a mainstream conservative.  I don’t like extremism from either side.

I greatly admire the US military and the selfless work that they do around the globe.  I’m not just talking about protecting us;  I’m talking about building roads (like they did in Nicaragua), building schools (Iraq, Afghanistan, pretty much all over), mercy hospitals (ships, etc), disaster relief, etc.  In addition to that, they do a great job protecting us.  The military folks that I admire the most are those who join because of their love of country.  Not just the great officers, like my buddy Rob, but the enlistees that do it for America.  I know that not all people in the service are in it for that.  I know some join to be able to afford a new truck, or to get out of sub-par conditions.  Either way, I appreciate their protection.  In a society where heroism has been sold to us as what an athlete might do, these guys are the cream of the crop.

I have incredible parents who love and nurture their kids and grandkids.  My upbringing was more Brady Bunch than anything.  My parents are definitely my heroes, and I hope to be able to reflect their approach in raising my kids.

I love sports.  American Football, Baseball, Soccer, Basketball.  In that order.  Go Saints, Go Texans, Go Astros, Go Rockets!

That’s it for me…
