My letter to the Honorable US Rep. Michael McCaul, my representative in the 10th District in Texas

Mr. McCaul,

As a strong lifelong Republican and McCaul supporter, I am shocked at your vote against the bailout.  You inflicted severe damage to the economy, particularly small businesses.  At the same time, your vote dried up hundreds of billions of Texans wealth in the stock market by the unforgivable mistake of voting against this package.  You of all people should understand that although it is a bad option, it is the best option.  The wealth that you erased from the people in your district that own mutual funds that own those companies hit in the market is just incredible.

I became a Republican in college because it seemed to me to be the party of good.  It’s elected officials seemed to be clearly morally above what I thought was a morally bankrupt democrat party that did everything because of politics.  My Republicans would risk it all for the American people, putting country first.  You sir, put politics before country yesterday.  What a sham and a shame.  Let’s focus on getting the country out of this major crisis and then worry about ideology.  Put COUNTRY FIRST now.

Not only did your vote manage to wipe out a significant amount of cash from the economy, potentially throwing the country into a reception, but you severely damaged the reputation of our own President Bush and our candidate John McCain.

I was discussing the vote with a group of politically active Republicans tonight, many of whom where invited and/or attended your town hall at EJs in Cypress a few weeks ago.  We were all pretty much disgusted and are discussing our options come the first week of November if this is not rectified.
