I am disgusted but, sadly, not surprised at the outrage being expressed by members of the entertainment industry over the arrest of Roman Polanski this week in Switzerland. In 1977, Polanski drugged a 13 year old girl with alcohol and Quaaludes and then proceeded to rape her. He pled guilty to a charge of unlawful sex with a minor and then fled the country before he could be sentenced for his crime. He has been at large ever since, living mostly in France – his place of birth and the country that is most accommodating to American murderers and rapists fleeing justice.
He did the crime
Let’s be clear about one thing: nobody is disputing that Roman Polanski did this crime. He admits that he did it. He claims that the sex was consensual. His victim claims it was not. That is immaterial. There is no such thing as consent for sex with a 13 year old child!
How fair is rape?
Actors and directors have come out and spoken about how unfair it was to have Polanski arrested as he was arriving to receive an award for lifetime achievement at the Zürich Film Festival. Festival jury president Debra Winger actually said, “This fledgling festival has been unfairly exploited, and whenever this happens, the whole art world suffers.” Hey, Debra, I’ve got a news flash for you! When 44 year old men drug and rape young girls, children suffer!
There’s sort of an unwritten rule (or maybe it’s actually written down somewhere) that says if you don’t rape children, then you can attend any film festival you like without being arrested for raping a child.
This court sentences you to 30 years of creating fine art
Now I have only seen one Roman Polanski film myself. It was Chinatown. I thought it was a good movie. I’m willing to concede for the sake of argument that everything that is being said about Polanski is true. Let’s accept as a fact that he is a brilliant film maker. He is a creative genius. He makes wonderful art. He has taught so much to so many actors by virtue of his seemingly limitless talent.
None of those things have any bearing on this case. The only relevant fact is that he drugged and raped a 13 year old girl. That’s all I have to know about a person for me to determine that he belongs in prison for the rest of his life. I personally believe that anyone who is guilty of rape deserves to be executed. That’s not going to happen, though. At a minimum, a rapist should never get out of prison. A punishment like that is an accurate reflection of the horrific nature of the crime.
Liberal does not mean evil
Most people know that the values of the “Hollywood” crowd are way out of the mainstream of most of American society. These are people who weep over the execution of cop killers and who take great pride in their friendships with such vile people as Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. Most of these entertainers aren’t just liberal; they’re left wing whack jobs!
I could respect an honest disagreement with people who hold different political views or who have different values than me. But don’t you think that when it comes to the issue of raping a child we ought to be able to get unanimous agreement on the left and the right? Don’t you think that liberals and conservatives alike would get on board with the idea that such a thing is a heinous crime worthy of a harsh punishment?
These people who express outrage at the arrest of Roman Polanski don’t have liberal values. They have evil values. I could understand if they were trying to argue that he was innocent and was being held on false charges. That would be a legitimate reason to call for his release. But when you acknowledge that he did in fact drug and rape this little girl and you still advocate for his release, then you are immoral in a way that decent people just can’t understand.
Remember back when we were young(er)? Whenever you would see a commercial for a new movie that was coming to theaters, it would end with a screen that shows the movie title along with the principle actors, the director, the producer, and other information about the movie. Often it would show two screens worth of this data. It would always scroll by too quickly for you to read it in any kind of detail.
In recent years, however, I have noticed a change. Now that many of us have DVRs that will allow us to pause the TV image (I was an early adopter of TiVo back about 10 years ago), it seems that these movie advertisements no longer show all of this information on the screen. Instead, they usually flash a web site URL for you to surf.
I am convinced that this is all part of a massive conspiracy engineered by the entertainment industry just to screw with me!
There are many people out there who are scratching their heads over the fact that President Obama is struggling to gain acceptance for his plan to radically change the way health care is administered in this country. Many of his supporters are saying that he is just not communicating his message very well. The fact of the matter is that if a plan is a disaster, then people will oppose it no matter how well you present it to the public.
Recently, Congressman Diane Watson (D-CA) conducted a town hall meeting where she posited her own theory for the opposition to socialized medicine. The following is an audio recording of what she said there. Following that is a written transcript with my own pearls of wisdom embedded. Watson is a Democrat member of Congress from Los Angeles. Her statements betray her racist views and her love of communism (no, really, listen to what she said).
You might have heard their philosophical leader. I think his name is Rush Limbaugh. And he said early on, “I hope that he fails.”
Do you know what that means? If the president, your commander-in-chief, fails, America fails.
That statement is patently untrue. If President Obama fails in his plans to “fundamentally transform America”, then America won’t fail. Quite the contrary, America will be saved! For more detail on this, see one of my earlier posts on just this subject: If Obama fails, America succeeds
Now, when a senator says that this will be his Waterloo, and we all know what happened at Waterloo, then we have him and he fails. Do we want a failed state called the United States?
Once again, the failure of the president’s radical agenda will not result in a failed state. The implementation of a massive welfare state, the raising of taxes to immorally high levels, the closing of Guantanamo Bay, the emasculation of the CIA and the pursuit of a policy where we treat al-Qaeda terrorists as if they are American citizens suspected of car theft will weaken this nation and make the entire world a more dangerous place.
So remember: They are spreading fear and they are trying to see that the first president that looks likes me fails.
This type of racist statement really infuriates me! Most normal people know that the opposition to Barack Obama has not one damn thing to do with the color of his skin or his ethnic background or who he happens to resemble. Anybody who tries to destroy this country with socialized medicine, environmental policies that are destined to wreck the economy while doing nothing to affect the climate, and a weak foreign policy would be met with vehement opposition from people who know better. As a senator, it was widely acknowledged that Barack Obama was the most left wing member of the Senate. He was more liberal than Hillary Clinton, more liberal than Ted Kennedy, even more liberal than Bernie Sanders, the only member of the Senate who has the integrity to call himself a socialist!
It is ignorant and racist to say that we oppose the president’s agenda because he is black. We oppose the president’s agenda because he is RED!
Now just understand what’s at the bottom line.
And you know we just got, 48 hours ago, I just go back, we were in Beijing, China, Hong Kong, China, we were in Taiwan, we were in Guam, we were all over the Far East.
. . . China, huh? Were you studying economics there?
I just want you to know: People look at the United States as a country that has changed its way and has elected someone from Kenya and Kansas, I’ll put it like that.
And they’re saying, “We thought you would never do that.”
So we don’t want to have this young man, and he just turned 48 — we want him to succeed, because when he succeeds, we regain our status. We regain our status.
I’ve already stated my opinion that President Obama’s success will not mean our success – quite the opposite, in fact. However, read the next part of this woman’s statement. If I were to call the Obama plan “communist”, people would accuse me of making a false statement. And they would be right to do so. The Obama plan is not communism – but it is a move in that direction. It is stunning to hear what the congressman says next.
It was just mentioned to me by our esteemed speaker, “Did anyone say anything about the Cuban health system?”
And lemme tell ya, before you say “Oh, it’s a commu–”, you need to go down there and see what Fidel Castro put in place. And I want you to know, now, you can think whatever you want to about Fidel Castro, but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met.
So being bright excuses you for being a brutal dictator? Does being bright excuse you for ruining your nation and stripping its citizens of their liberty?
And you know, the Cuban revolution that kicked out the wealthy, Che Guevara did that, and then, after they took over, they went out among the population to find someone who could lead this new nation, and they found…well, just leave it there (laughs), an attorney by the name of Fidel Castro…
There you have it! I encourage the Democrats to evoke the names of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro to sell their health care plans! By the way, kicking out the wealthy sounds like a brilliant way to boost the economy doesn’t it? There are bound to be millions of jobs available once all the entrepreneurs have been ruined!
This woman is evil. I say that because she is one of the many people who praise Fidel Castro and walk around wearing Che T-shirts all while living under the freedom and security of the United States of America. Meanwhile, they advocate that millions of people on the island of Cuba live under the oppression of the Castro regime. Quite often, these “Friends of Fidel” have done quite well for themselves financially and they would never subject themselves to the communist system that they praise so much while having tea with Castro or cocktails in Greenwich Village or while trashing our country on “Real Time with Bill Maher”!
I don’t see too many Americans risking their lives trying to sail from Florida to Cuba. But thousands have risked (and all too often lost) their lives trying to escape Diane Watson’s island paradise. If you want to know how evil or good a regime is, just look at how many people are dying to leave it vs. how many people are dying to get in.
