Let’s take our party back!

If you are a Republican, you will have to agree that our last two election cycles were a disaster.  Chairman Mike Duncan, who took over from Mr. Mehlman’s social disaster, could never get the party marching together.  And it could not have happen at a worst time:  the Dems had the first really effective party leader in decades in Howln’ Howard Dean.  We need to take the party leadership away from Mr. Duncan and trust it to some one else.   Here is what went wrong during his tenure:

  • 2006: There was no unified message in the elections.  Instead of standing on principle and supporting our views, our officeholders decided to run against their President and were soundly defeated.
  • 2008:  This election cycle was a complete disaster.  Not only was there no party unity, but we allowed our officeholders to run against each other and their own record.  You can ask any American what the GOP stood for and could not find anyone who could tell you.  AND, House Republicans, in my opinion, singlehandedly destroyed the McCain/Palin campaign by hanging him out to dry during the bailout.  ALL THE CHAIRMAN NEEDED TO DO IS TO HAVE A COORDINATED EFFORT WITH THE CAMPAIGN AND THE HOUSE REPUBLICANS.  If that would have happened, it would have shown leadership on the GOP’s part and we would be talking about the McCain victory.  IT IS INEXCUSABLE.
  • Iraq:  Iraq has been a success, but the party has failed to show its leadership in making it so.
  • The economy:  Until the meltdown, the economy was moving at a decent clip, yet the party did not defend it.  AND when the meltdown happened, the party failed to point out the manipulation by democrats that had occurred at FannieMae/Mac to create it.  We took a hit for it because we failed to fight it.
  • The fighting spirit:  This party behaved like the party of Nixon in 1975 instead of the party of Reagan.  We had no fighting spirit.  It was embarrassing.

During the past four to six years, the party went from being the party of change and reform to behaving like the democrats did in the past.  The scandals were inexcusable.  We needed to take our own trash out and did not.

Even in the fair state of Texas, we got smoked in many areas.  Harris county, once a bastion of the GOP has now gone blue (thanks to the influx from Katrinas).  Dallas county is now Blue.

What once seemed like the impenetrable south is now shaky.  The democrats have painted the GOP in anti-Hispanic colors and the GOP, which has done the most for us Hispanics, failed to respond.

So, as bad as it looks, how do we bounce back?  Well, we need Newt, but he is not going to run.  So the next best thing is Michael Steele from Maryland.  If you are not familiar with him, just watch Fox News.  He is always on.  Mr. Steele is very articulate about conservative causes, very likable, and very conservative.  He is also an African American.  Unlike Mr. Duncan, who could never get on TV, and Mr. Mehlman’s foot in the mouth, can’t defend himself persona, Mr. Steele, in my opinion, would give us that TV access we need.

We need someone in the mold of Lee Atwater or Haley Barbour.  Someone who can lead grass-roots from white protestant America, to Catholic American, to the Hispanic community, which we once came close to having.  We need someone who will explain to Hispanics why they need to be Republicans, about our values, and about our record and the lack of record with them that the dems have.  We need to push hard into the Catholic community with our pro-life stance and compassionate conservatism.  We need need to regain the evangelicals.  We need to better explain why the second amendment is important for all of us and SHOW the democrats record against it.  We need to show the nation that we should be ONE NATION UNDER GOD, not a divided nation against God.

We need to listen to the advice of Newt Gingrich, and focus on the issues that matter and in building our brand back up.  We are the party of Lincoln.  The moral party.  The reform party.  In my opinion, we need a new version of the contract with America that emphasizes:

  • Economic growth thru tax cuts, free trade agreements, and EXPENDITURE CUTS.  Let’s turn back the appropriation nightmare that we have and have our candidate pledge not to take pork.  And let’s expose those who do.
  • Economic strength thru a balance budget and a balance budget amendment:  These are core Reagan values.  Let’s not spend the money that we don’t have.  Let’s focus on a balance budget by year 2014, with a targeted amendment by that date.
  • Peace thru strength:  Another Reagan term.  Let’s have peace on our terms.  Let’s make sure that the American people realize that we want PEACE not WAR, but that we cannot have real PEACE unless we finish the wars and keep our military strength.
  • Security thru control:  Let’s figure out the best way to secure the borders by implementing a comprehensive program that meets the requirements of the border states and border counties AND the security interests of the nation.  Let’s put programs in place to handle the illegals in a way that does not destroy our economy and provides for means for them to pay taxes and have the ability to go back to Mexico.  For that point, see my immigration control plan in a previous blog.
  • Line Item Veto:  Let’s give the president, regardless of who it is, the power to govern by being able to take out pork and crap from important legislation.  Let’s make a commitment to pass a line item veto legislation the first year we take back the majority in the senate and the house.
  • Let’s take back the Hispanic Vote:  Being Hispanic, I see no reason why any Hispanic should be sold on the Democrats.  Most of the people coming here are escaping socialist or leftist regimes, or regimes that were corrupted by the left (in Mexico’s case).  The GOP offers a closer morality match (most are Catholic) and a closer match in the work ethic.  As we all know, those are the people picking up our trash, building our houses, and cleaning our homes.  They work hard as do most Republicans.  The democrats have stolen their vote by lying about our immigration plans.  Let’s explain it clearly to them, let’s show them that the GOP has had far more influential government positions offered to Hispanics than the Democrats, and then let’s talk about our joint values.  This could become yet another base.
  • Lastly, LETS BE PROUD OF WHO WE ARE:  On a flight before the election, some San Francisco liberal woman was running her mouth about Bush as we landed in Texas.  I asked her politely to shut her pie hole, as President Bush is still liked and admired here.  Everyone around me backed me up.  If we are proud and we show it, then the enthusiasm will grow.  I AM PROUD TO BE A CONSERVATIVE HISPANIC REPUBLICAN.  I AM PROUD OF THE JOB PRESIDENT BUSH DID.  I AM PROUD OF OUR MILITARY AND THEIR WORK IN AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ.  I AM PROUD OF MY PARTY.  I AM PROUD OF OUR PAST.  I LOOK FORWARD TO OUR FUTURE.

So, how do we get there?  We need coordination, messaging, organization, and organizing.   We need a leader that is going to do this and offer a plan for America.  The plan that Obama took to the people was in many ways our plan.  We all know that he will not follow it because it was mostly our plan.  LETS TAKE IT BACK.  WE ARE THE PARTY WITH A PLAN.  And we need to start now if we are to have any hopes of regaining strength and LEADING THE NATION in the right path.

And I think that, outside of Newt Gingrich, Michael Steele is the only one that can lead us from fragmented to united, from lost to leading, from minority to majority.

SOCIALISM!

What an incredible injustice has just been done to the American public by the media.  The country is definetely moving very quickly to Socialism, and the media, who is supposed to be our watchdog, was caught licking its own genitals.  If you don’t believe me on some of these, just google it or youtube it.  It comes from their own mouth.  Here are some of the things that they did not focus enough time on:

  • UNION VOTING:  Workers will no longer have the RIGHT to a secret ballot.   This is intimidation 101 and is similar to what was practiced in Marxist countries.  Yes, Virginia, they are really going to pass that.
  • FAIRNESS DOCTRINE:  Since the left owns the general media but not talk radio, they are going to impose the FAIRNESS doctrine on them so that radio stations carrying conservative shows will HAVE TO carry liberal ones as well.  Listen to Diane F. here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBsbvP0-410
  • WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJyS1WJNisM. Yes, you saw/heard that right.  They are going to take your INCOME, not just your wealth.  They see it as inevitable.  They are going to give YOUR MONEY to someone who DOES NOT PAY TAXES.  That is SOCIALISM.  This is not the first time in American history this has discussed, as we fought these battles in the 20s.
  • OPEN BORDERS:  How do they guarantee their ownership of America?  Easy, quickly legalize 12 million illegals, tie voting to benefits for them, and encourage more to come in.    Don’t believe me?  Look up Obama’s comments on your kids speaking Spanish.  AND this comes from a Spanish speaker.
  • RELIGIOUS FREEDOM:  The left views religion as opium for the masses.  Just listen to Obama’s speech about guns and religion.  They view us, the non leftist elites, as dumb and uninitiated, and with too much power that is coordinated by our moral views based on our outdated religious beliefs.  How do you stop that concentration?  You manage down the “standard” religions by pumping up the preferred religions.  This is not a new concept, as it is widely used in Marxist countries.
  • NEW INNER FOCUS:  Obama has said as much, but no one seems to talk about this as a big picture.  He is going to pull us out of Iraq and Afghanistan without caring about the consequence.  He is going to cut 1/3 of our military budget, and start disarming our nukes.   If we come out of an Obama adminsitration as the 5th most powerful military country in the world, that will be a miracle.

There is lots more: UN control of our military, his extensive terrorist ties, etc., point to a completely different kind of government pushed by the left.  They have been letting out little by little over the last week so they can say they talked about it before election day.  However, the American people are so crazed by “change” that they are throwing out the baby with the bath water.  Come on America, dont make that mistake!
