More thoughts on Obama – 11 March 08

“My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.
I hope you’ll join with me as we try to change it.”  (B. Obama)

No, Mr. Obama.  I will NOT join you in changing the greatest nation in the world.  You are trying to tie patriotism to socialism, and that will make us just another nation.

This is a country that everyone in the world counts on when they are in trouble.  Not only do they count on us, but they get down right nasty if we are not there with open arms.

The obvious issue with his statement is that if he believes that we are the greatest nation in the history of the world, why do we need to change it? And if you want to change it, then what does that change mean?

Everyone with half of a brain knows that this nation works so well because we are compassionate AND conservative.  Because we help people who truly need help and we try to make those who expect help for no reason to help themselves.  The issue I have with Obama and most democrats is that they want to take away from those who build wealth for ALL, and give to the people who are not doing for themselves.  I am all for helping people learn how to provide for themselves, but not for a permanent system of providing.  As it was proven in the former communist countries AND in these United States, automatically providing creates a permanent underclass that has no incentives to better themselves.  The results are staggering.  The majority of that underclass loses their personal values, and you end up with grandparents raising children, majority of single parent homes, rampant drug use, and a system of people addicted to the dole, where people get money for their voting influence.  Just look at the mess New Orleans (my old home) has been in, or the corrupt political machines in New York, Chicago, and other major cities.

To Mr. Obama, I must say: This is the greatest nation in the history of the world.  Let’s enhance that greatness, but DO NOT destroy the principles that make it great.  A free market system is THE principal reason we are a wealthy nation, and our freedoms and morality the reason we are so free.

As Americans, we all live with a shameful past created by slavery and the Jim Crow laws.  Favoring anyone over anyone else is wrong and immoral.  Just like it was in the fifties and sixties when many brave man and woman fought for equality, it is now, when we MUST maintain that equality across  all races and groups.  No one should be favor.  That means NO to affirmative action (or reverse racism, as I call it), NO to any international control of our troops, NO to open border.  It also means YES to free (and FAIR) trade, YES to incentives for wealth makers, and YES to our institutions that provide our moral foundations (such as school prayer, churches, and GOD).

Obama is obviously a great speaker.  I have never been known to agree with the Clintons, but I think they are right in that when you have a crisis at 3AM, you do not want a speechmaker.  You want a doer.  That doer is John McCain.

Feeeeeeeddddd the wooooorrrrllddd…

You know it’s election season when people who never received enough oxygen in their brains start to tell you how to vote.  This is an example of a conversation with a poor misinformed young man that called me from the Obama campaign.  This was in response to my question, what does Mr. Obama think that are the main humanitarian issues facing us in the US?  (Of course, a trick question).  This young man replied, and I’m not kidding: “Dude, great question.  He is going to help us with our HUGE unemployment rate and to finally start feeding the hungry throughout the world, because W. has spent all of our money in Iraq and people are starving.”

I held in my laughter and then I said, “Hmmm, really.   Tell me, DUDE, what do you think our unemployment rate is today?”.  He said “I dont know, like 20%”.  I replied “Is this what Obama believes?  Do you know that it was 4.9% last month.  Do you know that is LOWER than the average of the Clinton years?”.  He replied: “Really, wow.  I didn’t know that”.  I then added,  “Pretty good, considering that the terrorists attacked our the center of our financial world when they killed all of those 2998 innocent people in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania on 9/11″.

“Dude, are you a Republican?”.  Well, he should have known that already, since they got my name and number from the voter roles for primaries.  I have always voted GOP.  I said, “Well, I’m a patriot.  As a person that came to this country LEGALLY as a young boy, who lives here because I know there is no where better, I think it is really important to know who your facts before you make a decision as important as picking a President”.

“Well, good, we would like your vote then”, he said.  I said, “OK, great, let’s keep talking.  You just heard that the unemployment rate is still pretty good.  You should also know that the economy is still growing.  And that is all thanks to an economic stimulus package passed in 2002.  Do you think that is pretty good?”  He replied, “I’m sure that Obama would have supported that package if he would have been in the senate then”.  I said, “Hmmm, do you know that the basis of that package was what you people call the Bush Tax Cuts.  And that although those Tax cuts saved our economy, that some people want to get rid of them by letting them expire?  How does Obama feel about that”.  “Well, he feels that those tax cuts are for the rich and they need to pay their taxes.  They pay no taxes and they need to pay their taxes.”  I said, “You are in college, right?”  “I was, but took a breather to help elect Barrack”.  I said, “OK.  Compare to your friends, do you and your family have more or less money that them?”.  “More, but that’s not what we are here to talk about”, he said.  “Well, it is.  If you went to lunch with your 10 best buds, and you and another guy had to pay for everyone’s lunch every day of every week, except for 1 week a month, would that piss you off?”.  He said, “I know where this is going and you are trying to trick me”.  I said, “No.  I just want you to realize that what you just said is not valid.  Do you know that the people they call rich, those 1 out of 4 that make 120K or more, those people pay 86 percent of all taxes?  That’s more than 1 out of 5.  Is like having to pick up breakfast, lunch, and dinner for your friends on Monday thru Thursday and then everyone pays on Friday.  Not fair is it?”.  There was silence.

I said, “I think you got my point on why I don’t think those tax cuts should expire.  There is NOT a huge unemployment rate.  The economy is not quite as strong as it was last year, but its not dead.  Now, can we talk about the other part of your statement?  You said something about World Hunger?”.  “Yes sir, I’m sure you have something to say about that as well.”.  I said, “I do.  But so do you.  If you think I’m bullsh***ng you about anything here, just look it up.  You said you wanted to talk about Obama’s candidacy.  Now, I get the feeling that it was OK for me to listen to you but it’s not OK for you to listen to me.  Is that right?”   “No sir”, he responded, “I just realized that I don’t have the answers like I thought I did. I will research this”.  I added, “Well, good, because the single most important thing that you can do right now is to make sure that you do understand what reality is and not take your guy to his word.   People believed in Nixon and he betrayed them.  And people believed and died for Hitler, and as you know the Nazis were a party and group built on lies”

“I hear you dude”, he said.  I replied “Good!  That means that when you do pull that lever or punch the button, at least you are going to know the implications of voting for Barrack Obama are.  But let’s just finish with your initial statement.  You mentioned World Hunger.  Aside from all the end hunger charities, of which most, if not all are US based, the largest global agency that fights world hunger is a UN led agency called the WFP, World Food Programme.  Have you ever heard of it?”  “Nope”, he said.  “Well”, I added, “Guess who is the biggest contributor there?  It’s these United States of America.  We put more money into that program than the REST of all of the other contributing countries COMBINED.”  We put in 1/4 of a billion dollars last year.  Did you know that?”.  “No sir, but that’s pretty cool”, he said.  I said, “Yah that’s cool.  We are also the biggest humanitarian contributor to  Africa’s AID crisis.  President Bush increased our contributions there from less than a Billion with Clinton to over $4 billion last year AND he committed $14 billion.  And he did this all without much fanfare.  We were also the largest contributor to the relief after the tsunami, putting military hospital and rescue ships in place a few HOURS after it happened.  We are also the top donator of food to Latin America and Asia.  What do you think of that?”  “That’s great, but that’s because we are the richest nation on earth.” he said.  I asked him if he knew what that meant, and when he said no, I told him “on a strength of economy, meaning everyone’s production put together, yes.  But we are only richer than the other top 4 nations put together, not 20.  We do way more than anyone else.  Way, Way, Way more.  And it’s all paid by that 1/4 of the people that contribute 85%.  If you over tax those people, they wont produce as much anymore, and guess what, the rest of those people at the bottom are going to start paying.  That means that the top quarter wont pay for lunch 4 days a week.  It will be two, and everyone else is going to have to pay a lot more taxes.  Not a good thing.  How about that?”

“Where do you get all of your facts, Rush Limbaugh dot com?” he asked, “you just seem to know too many numbers.”.  I said, “Like I told you earlier, I take my right to vote seriously.  I cannot take empty words from politicians.  If you want to check my facts, go to wfp.com for funding on food programs, or do a search on the web for GNP by country or unemployment for 2008. Don’t believe the numbers from bloggers or politicians.  Look at what the agencies say.”

“This has been interesting and you obviously wont vote for Obama” he said.  “Why not?” I asked, seeing if he would state the obvious, “Because if you aint lying then you might be right.  Who are you voting for?” he asked.  “John McCain”, I said.  “Look him up when you are looking at all of those points.  I know that voting for a Republican is a nasty word right now with people your age, but if you really care about your country, you owe it to yourself and us to really understand what you are doing.”, I said as my last statement was met with silence.  “It’s not that he won’t salute the flag or wear the flag lapel pin that really throws me over the curve on your guy.  That does p*** me off, as I came here to this wonderful country from a horrible dictatorship where we had no rights.  What really gets me is that he talks a great talk but has never walked the walk.   His policies could throw this country into a great depression.  That’s what scares me”, I said, trying to end the conversation.

There was silence.  “Dude, you there?” I asked.  “Yes”, he replied sadly.  I think I just destroyed the unfounded hope of my fellow Texan.  Sorry, dude, but I have been proud of America for decades, so tell Michelle “no thank you”.

I now go off to vote.  I will not pull the lever of punch the button for Obama.  Go McCain go!

My endorsements for the Texas Primary

If you care, this is who I’m voting for. Although I am not a Democrat, and I would vote for Hillary Clinton if I was. If I could only choose between her and Obama, I would vote for her 100 out of 100 times. Not that I’m a big fan of hers. Is just that he really worries me.

Now, for the people who I’m voting for:

US Prez: John McCain. He has been my guy all along. I saw him speak at the ‘88 republican convention right after I saw Hanoi Hilton (the movie). Love the guy. I’m a conservative and I think my fellow conservatives who are whinnying are a bunch of dummies.

US Senate: John Cornyn

State Rep, District 130: Corbin Van Arsdale. Fletcher’s machine is questionable and a bit dishonest. Fletcher will probably win and I might not vote for him in the general election. Van Arsdale at least fought Time Warners attempt at bribery. Fletcher welcomes their money. And all of this mess is making me re-evaluate my support of Dan Patrick. DAN – WE DONT WANT OR NEED ANOTHER TOM DELAY.

District Clerk: Theresa Chang

County Sheriff: Tommy Thomas again

County School Trustee, Position 5 At Large: Mike Riddle

County School Trustee, Position 7 At Large: Raymond (Ray) Garcia – He has done a great job for us and I’m afraid he will be tossed in this anti-immigrant year.

Constable, Precinct 4: Ron Hickman.

County Chairman: Jared Woodfill is the only one running. I am, however, concerned how the party has slipped in the county and almost disapeared in the city in the last few years.

INITIATIVES:

Force Enforcement of the Borders: Yes to this resolution, although it gets nothing done by itself.

IMMIGRATION: Enforce existing laws to secure our borders: Yes, of course.

That’s me.

Proof of bigotry in the media

Everyone knows that the general media is pro-socialist (or pro-progressive, as socialism is called now), and anti-republican. Want proof?

Yahoo election link

Yes Virginia, those are 3 SMILING democrats and 3 frowning republicans… Look at CNN, CBS, ABC, and NBC. They all do the same thing. It appeals to our senses and makes people like the people who are jolly.

Un-freaking-believable.
