UPDATED 3/2/2008
I predicted back in November that Obama was someone to watch and that he had a really good shot of getting the nomination. I talked about his incredible charisma and his ability to talk in double entendres to say what people want to hear, not what he really means.
Since then, he has somehow become the front runner, and in the process dismantling a very strong Clinton machine that was once thought unbeatable. His uniter not divider speeches are incredibly compelling, as is his ability to brand himself into the next JFK.
What people are not hearing are what he is, in terms of his politics. JFK was a hero before he was president because of his service to the country during WWII. JFK was a conservative democrat that believed in a strong national defense and lower taxes. His policies from the early 60s are actually just about perfectly aligned with those of the Republican party of today. Sure, he surrounded himself with some questionable folks, and had a weakness for beautiful women.
He was also elected by a really slim margin and was in a very tight race (actually behind) for his second term.
Now back to the Barack. Here are some of my concerns:
This is by no means comprehensive.
Not all is well in Obama land. It concerns me that no one seems to care.
I am an immigrant to this great land of ours and I love it. I came here legally and have always followed the rules of this great land. It hurts me to see people who just don’t seem to even like their homeland. That includes the majority of the stakeholders in the mainstream media.
When I initially wrote this blog, I received hate mail. I was called a racist and a fear monger for not supporting Obama. That is ridiculous. The fact is that there is precedence for the danger of listening to oratory and not diggig in for facts. Obama can quote JFK and MLK all he wants. He is not even close to those two. JFK was a very conservative democrat and Obama is an extremely liberal “progressive”. MLK wanted to UNITE by doing not by talking. There were two black leaders in the 60s. One was MLK, who led a revolution thru peace, love and understanding. That revolution was going to be based on equality. Then there was Malcolm X who wanted a black revolution with all the benefits going to blacks. Obama talks MLK and JFK but his actions and the people he associates with are closer to Malcolm X.
Republicans are so worried about putting Clinton and McCain, they seem to be missing the big picture. Democrats are so giddy that they have a minority that could actually win, that they dont care that they are throwing out the baby with the bath water. And of course, the news media is lined up to support Obama in any way they can.
God save us!
By all accounts, Dom Capers was a huge disappointment to the city of Houston and obviously the Houston Texans. He has gone from the talk of the town, to destroying the Texans with his boring and predictable defense, and with Charles Casserly, destroying the team thru stupid trades and decisions. There is a new Sheriff in town, and thankfully, the Texans look like they can be winners.
But this blog article is not about the Texans. It’s about how an inept coach with his inept coordinators can destroy a young man’s career.
But first, let’s talk about the two protagonists. David Carr, once hailed as the next best thing, was just released from his third string backup duties in Carolina (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-panthers-moves&prov=ap&type=lgns). Dom Capers is now an ASSISTANT (yes, that’s right, he is not even a coordinator) with the Patriots, where the talent is so strong, he cannot do much damage. Capers was a coordinator with the Miami Dolphins, where he managed to do serious damage to that team as well.
So now, back to the story. The first season of the Texans, Carr looked pretty good. He had to use his ability to scramble often, as the offensive line was weak and the play calling even weaker. As time moved on, the offensive line got weaker, and the play calling worse. I had a friend from Oakland asked me about the chances that the Raiders had against the Texans in 2004. I replied, frankly, that its pretty easy to beat the Texans. That if you prepare for a run in first down, a play action in second down, and a long pass attempt on third, that you pretty much had the playbook down for the offense. And on the defense, since they got rid of their speedy players, that the 3-4 defense was no longer stopping anyone. He laughed. Then he counted. I’m not kidding. He counted 10 offensive plays for the Texans. They did exactly what I described above in 8 of the 10 plays.
So now, back to Carr. When the defense knows exactly what you are doing on every play, you will get sacked. And he did. Over 70 times in a single season. Imagine being crashed to the ground 70 times in a single season. Being thrown into the ground by very large and very strong people who are trying to hurt you. What happens is that you get that “beaten dog” syndrome. You just don’t want it anymore and you cower away when you think it might happen. That leads to badly thrown balls, incompletions, and interceptions. That poor guy hit the ground hard so many times that his confidence completely eroded and he is now a shell of what he used to be.
Gary Kubiak tried to fix him but was unable. John Fox took a shot as well. It was too late for a young man who cannot get beyond the fear of hitting the ground. And it’s all thanks to Capers, his crappy coordinators, and their predictable play calling.
But wait, there is more. Do you all remember a young man out of LSU called Domanick Davis (now Domanick Williams)? Well, he was rookie of the year in 2003. Had some fantastic statistics, and he did it all under the same system. But since the system was so predictable, his career was also destroyed by Capers due to injuries. He spent the entire season last season on injured reserve and will likely be done.
There are obviously others, but these two very high profile players are owed an apology by Capers.
I think the only coach worse in the NFL at the time was the Saint’s Jim Hasslet, who had more talent available to him than just about any other coach in Saint’s history, and managed to p*ss it away. But that, my friends, is another story.
Guilty or Not Guilty?
Well, I just don’t think he is. I watched the congressional circus today and I am convinced that he is not guilty. Here are my thoughts:
I must say that I’m impressed that Roger Clemens went to congress and did not take the easy way out like everyone else did. He made sure that his statements were done while being sworn in, and in front of the nation. That does not sound like a guilty person to me.
So, what do I think happened? I think that Roger actually thought about it, talked about it, but did not do it. I think that McScumBag threw him to the wolves to get attention. And I think that Roger did not think that HGH was an illegal steroid, as you can read advertisements for it on airline magazines, see its uses on the discovery channel, etc. I don’t think he used it, but he might have stated that he was interested…
So you want to know more?
I am not anti Obama or pro-Clinton, as they are not my cup of tea. But, come on. This is ridiculous. Obama refuses to wear the flag, and to put his right hand over his heart for the national anthem, AND his people have the Cuban flag soiled by the picture of the murderous Che Guevara on it. No, its not a mistake. Look at the last picture. Yes, that’s right; the Cuban flag stands side by side with the American flag and the peace flag. This is in Obama’s presidential campaign offices in beautiful touristic
I think I’m crossing party lines to vote for Hillary in the primary… Stakes are now just too high.
I think Obama is very charming, very well spoken, and has transcended socio-economic barriers better than anyone else I have seen in the American political system. Castro was also very charming, very popular, and his focus was also change. Obviously it was change for the bad.
Pass it on…
